Everything you need to know
Dacia has recently introduced its first production all-electric model, the Dacia Spring Electric. It's based on the Dacia Spring Electric concept car that was first shown in March 2020 and related to the Renault City K-ZE.
A small city EV with decent range
According to Dacia, the Spring has a 230 km (142-mile) WLTP range and its starting price in France is just €16,990 (approx. £14,550 at current exchange rate), or €12,403 (£10,600) with the local government eco-bonus factored in. Dacia says that the Spring will have even more range if you drive it exclusively in town, with a claimed 305 km (189 miles) - this is based on the WLTP City cycle.
In France, there will be three versions of Spring for buyers to choose from: the standard version, the Business version aimed at fleet buyers and car sharing services and, from 2022, the Spring Cargo which will be delivered without a back seat in order to be used as an urban delivery vehicle. It is worth noting that government incentives for the purchase of EVs vary from country to country in Europe - in Romania, for instance, the eco-ticket reduces a new electric car’s price by almost €10,000 (£8,500) so, in theory, the Spring should cost from just €7,000 (£6,000) in Dacia’s home country; hopefully this spurs on EV sales, as the nation is lagging behind others when it comes to EV adoption.
The Dacia Spring Electric is equipped with a rather small 26.8 kWh battery pack, which is expected to last for 225 km (140 miles) under the WLTP test cycle. The battery is covered by 8 years or 120,000 km (74,600 miles) warranty. The on-board charger is a decent 6.6 kW, although the DC CCS inlet (for 30 kW charging) is an option. With a 33 kW electric motor, the Dacia Spring Electric surely will not be quick, although the top speed is 125 km/h (78 mph).
